YOUR LEARNING. YOUR SPACE.

Privacy policy

Updated 19 September 2026 · Current offline app and earlier account-based test versions

1. Information in the current app

The app stores locally on device, no data on the cloud: learner nicknames, selected primary levels and subjects, question attempts, hint use, practice history, learning estimates, recorded active-practice intervals, preferences and garden milestones. A nickname is sufficient; a child does not need to enter an email address, date of birth or school name.

Learning games also store the game and challenge selected, displayed-question identifiers, answer choices, whether a choice was deliberately made, observed choice timing, scores, streaks, completed puzzles and the state needed to resume an interrupted game. The app does not store a continuous gesture or movement trace.

The current app does not automatically send these learning records to our servers, an AI provider, advertising services or third-party analytics. We do not add advertising identifiers or a tracking SDK to the app.

Self-paced projects also keep inspected clues, construction designs, experiment settings, attempts, hints and completed collections on the device. These are guided activity records. Completing a project is not automatically treated as an independent academic answer.

2. How local information is used

Local records are used to resume practice and games, personalise question selection, provide learning explanations and recommendations, show milestones, and generate Parent Learning Reports. These calculations run on the device. Deliberate game answers can inform learning estimates with allowance for the game's response conditions; scores, unselected gates and control-only mistakes are not treated as evidence of subject knowledge. Learning estimates and practice mastery milestones are not exam grades or diagnoses.

3. Parent access and optional PDF sharing

A separate parent PIN protects report access and sharing. A grown-up verifies the device through the operating system before setting or resetting this PIN. The app stores a salted PIN verifier in this device’s Keychain; it does not store the PIN as plain text. The operating system handles Face ID, Touch ID or device-passcode verification. The app does not receive biometric information.

A parent can generate a PDF and choose a destination through the device’s share sheet. The learner nickname is omitted by default and can be included by the parent. Reports contain practice statistics and recommendations; they do not contain an account ID or device ID. A recipient or service chosen for sharing receives that copy and controls its further handling.

Temporary export files are removed from the app’s temporary storage after the share screen is dismissed. Copies saved or shared outside the app are controlled by the person who saved or received them.

4. Deletion, backups and changing devices

To remove a local learner and their learning history, select the learner in You → Edit learner, then confirm Delete this learner and their progress. This keeps other local learner profiles.

The app does not provide its own cloud synchronisation. Device backups may retain earlier copies and are managed through the device owner’s settings. Exported PDFs do not restore app data. Parent PIN verification is specific to this device; device verification can be used to reset it.

5. Accounts from older AWS test versions

Earlier account-based versions used Amazon Web Services, including Cognito for authentication, and could store account information, learner profiles, answers and progress online. Those versions also offered connected features described in the earlier policy.

The current offline app does not sign into those accounts. Deleting a local learner does not delete an older AWS account or its online records. Records created during earlier testing may remain in the existing AWS services until they are removed.

For access, correction or deletion requests about an older account, email help@northstareducation.io and identify the email address used for that account. We may need appropriate information to confirm the request is authorised. Do not send an account password or a parent PIN.

6. Children and family use

The app is designed for primary learners with support from a trusted adult. Parents should help choose a nickname, manage device and backup settings, and decide whether a report should be shared. The app contains no purchases or advertising. Parent PIN access is a local safeguard; it is not a verification of a person’s age or legal guardianship.

7. Support messages and this website

If you email support, the information you choose to send is used to respond to your request. Please include only what is needed and avoid unnecessary personal information about a child.

The public support site uses GitHub Pages. We do not add analytics scripts, advertising or tracking cookies to these pages. A hosting or email provider may process ordinary connection information needed to provide its service. This website is not an in-app analytics service.

8. Policy changes

The date at the top identifies this policy version. Future connected features would require an updated policy and the relevant in-app disclosures before release.
